What matters to you?

Have you ever asked this question to yourself?
"What matters to me?”, I'm sure many of us have not confronted with this questions, "What really matters? " at the surface level you might think that I know what matters to me, but ask yourself is that really matters to you?, I don't have the answers to what should matter to you and/or what matters to you, but it is interesting to look at this questions.
The second mart of the process is to ask "Why it matters to you?", You can make a list if things on a sheet of paper that you think that matter to you and you can say that having these things in my life matters to me. Then ask the questions "Why it matters?", to your surprise many things which you thought matter to you may not may not really matter to you. Then you will have the clarity on what you want. You can make a plan to acquire it.
Just to share my own example, for some days I was thinking "What matters to me is having lot of money", then when I asked the second question " Why I want to have money and how much?”.I was not clear. I put some effort and started looking at why I want to have more money. I wanted more money to buy a big Car, a Digital Camera and to Travel . Then again I asked Why? And I went to more specific things like which car?
Which Camera? Where I want to travel? Etc.
This gave me an idea about the amount of money that I want. It came to around 18-20 lakh. I saw having a big car does not really matter to me but having a camera and travelling matters to me. Travelling to any place interests me.
When I relooked at this, the amount of money required came down to 70-80 thousand. This I can afford and have it also!.
The whole point is if you are really clear what really matters to you, you might be able to have it in most of the cases. I agree there may be some things which really matter to you and it may be difficult to have it.
But don't struggle for things which really do not matter. May be going home at six might matter to you but you may be putting extra hours in office to get that promotion/designation which really may not matter to you, you may be putting in extra hours just to be in the race.
Look at "What matters to you?"
